If Necessary - Removing Old Grass

Many clients we work with have an existing lawn. That's perfectly fine for our team. We can help you remove the existing grass to prepare for the new sod. This process basically involves stripping the top layer of grass from the soil and roto-tiling the soil to prepare it. It's a manual labor process, but it's a necessary one to create the proper foundation for the new grass to take root and thrive. Many people think they can just lay new sod over old grass. This can work occasionally, but it's not always a guarantee. Wouldn't you rather be confident your new sod will correctly take root and prosper in your lawn? Why risk it by leaving the old grass? Soil Leveling

Nearly all lawns we work with require some aspect of leveling the soil. This step is more important than people think. Dips create puddle areas which can drown grass and large slopes can prevent grass from getting the necessary water it needs. Many times this is evident in areas near sidewalks and driveways. Sod Installation

Now that all prep work is done, it's time for the main event - laying the sod. If soil preparation is done correctly, this step can move quickly with our expert team. We've laid acres of sod at this point, and we have it down to a science. We lay an off-setting brick pattern (much like a subway tile backsplash in a kitchen) for the sod pieces. We cut the grass to match any unique shapes or landscaping in the yard to provide a seamless look and feel. After laying the sod, we will roll it down to help compact the roots to the new dirt.

Final Steps

The most important aspect to create a long-lasting yard is the next 4 weeks after laying sod. This is where the customer can make or break this new sod installation we've just created. Watering is crucial to help promote the grass roots attaching to the new soil. We typically recommend watering once per day if it's spring or fall (evening), and twice per day in summer (morning and evening). Plus we will provide recommendations on fertilizers that work well with your chosen sod type. Following these directions can help ensure you have a lush yard years from now!
